Where should you place a batería doméstica? Everything about the optimal location, temperature requirements, ventilation, seguridad contra incendios and relevant building regulations.
The location where you place your batería doméstica has a direct impact on the performance, vida útil and safety of the system. A battery in the wrong location — too hot, too cold, too humid or without ventilation — performs worse and can, in extreme cases, sustain damage.
In this article, we discuss all the factors that play a role in the placement decision: indoor versus outdoor, temperature requirements, ventilation, seguridad contra incendios and the applicable building regulations in los Países Bajos.
Both options have pros and cons. The choice depends on your available space, the battery model and your personal preference.
Every battery has an optimal temperature range in which the cells perform best and last the longest. Below is an overview:

| Battery type | Optimal temperature range | Absolute range (min–max) |
|---|---|---|
| LFP indoor model | 15–25°C | 0°C to 45°C |
| LFP outdoor model (IP65) | 15–25°C | -20°C to 55°C |
| NMC indoor model | 15–25°C | -10°C to 50°C |
Rule of thumb: keep your battery between 10°C and 30°C for optimal performance. Above 35°C, degradation accelerates; below 0°C, available capacity temporarily decreases.
Baterías domésticas produce heat during charging and discharging. This heat must be dissipated to prevent overheating. Most manufacturers specify that you should maintain at least 15–20 cm of clearance around the unit.
Modern LFP baterías domésticas (LiFePO4) are inherently safe. The phosphate bond in the cathode is thermally stable and does not release oxygen when overheated — unlike NMC batteries. This means that LFP cells virtually cannot spontaneously ignite.
All baterías domésticas sold by HES comply with IEC 62619 (industrial lithium-ion safety standard) and UN38.3 (transport safety). They are also CE-certified for the European market. Nevertheless, we recommend not placing the battery directly next to flammable materials — purely as an extra precaution.
In los Países Bajos, installing a batería doméstica is in most cases permit-free. However, there are a number of rules and guidelines to be aware of:
Below are our top 5 recommended locations, ranked from ideal to acceptable:
Avoid bedrooms, bathrooms (too humid), lofts without ventilation and spaces with direct sunlight. The distance to your fuse box is also a factor: the shorter the cable route, the lower the costes de instalación and voltage loss.
The placement of your batería doméstica deserves the same attention as the choice of the system itself. A well-placed battery performs better, lasts longer and is safer. Take temperature, ventilation and regulations into account in your decision and always discuss the location with your installer.
